Assorted Colored Mystery Snails (Pomacea bridgesii), also known as Apple Snails, are popular freshwater snails admired for their vibrant and varied colors, peaceful nature, and role as excellent tank cleaners. They come in a range of colors, including golden yellow, blue, ivory, purple, magenta, and brown, adding a decorative element to the aquarium.

Appearance

• Shell Colors: Mystery snails can have smooth, rounded shells in various colors, which makes them a visually appealing addition to any tank. The shell typically has a spiral shape with growth rings that reveal the snail’s age.
• Body Colors: Their soft bodies can also vary in color, sometimes matching or contrasting with their shells, from creamy white to dark purple or black.

Care and Tank Requirements

• Tank Size: Minimum 5 gallons for one snail; a larger tank is ideal if keeping multiple.
• Water Conditions: Neutral to slightly alkaline pH (7.0-8.0) and temperatures between 68°F and 84°F (20°C - 29°C). Mystery snails prefer stable, clean water with a moderate to strong filtration.
• Diet: Omnivorous. They eat algae, uneaten fish food, and soft plants. They also enjoy vegetables like spinach, zucchini, and carrots, as well as calcium supplements to support shell health.
• Behavior: Peaceful and can cohabit with non-aggressive tank mates. They spend their days exploring surfaces, scavenging for food, and occasionally coming to the water’s surface for air.

Breeding

Mystery Snails are easy to breed in captivity. They are gonochoric, meaning they have distinct male and female individuals, so both are required for breeding. They lay clusters of eggs above the waterline, which hatch in 2-4 weeks.
