Derived from the dried husk of the Cholla Cactus, this hollow, porous aquarium wood is a functional powerhouse. Its iconic honeycomb structure isn’t just for aesthetics; it serves as a biological factory for biofilm and a high-security nursery for small aquatic life in a planted aquarium.

- Cholla is famous for stimulating the growth of biofilm, a natural, nutrient-rich film that serves as the primary food source for shrimp and baby fry.
- The hollow center and perforated walls create the perfect “safe house” for molting shrimp and small fish to hide from larger tank mates.

- They are cut to 4 inches in length and approximately 1.5-2 inches in diameter.
Preparation and Care
- Rinse: Thoroughly rinse the piece to remove any dust or debris from transit.
- The Sinking Process: Dry Cholla is very lightweight and will float initially. To get it to stay put, we recommend soaking it in a bucket for 24–48 hours or boiling it for 20 minutes to help it become waterlogged.
Safety Disclaimer
This tunnel is best suited for freshwater shrimp or small fry. If you have larger, curious fish or other fauna (such as a betta fish) that may try to explore such small crevices, there is a risk they may get caught or stuck in the tunnel. Please be mindful of this before placing it in your aquarium.
How to Acclimate Your Fish
Allow the sealed bag to float in your aquarium for approximately 15–20 minutes to equalize the temperature. Open the bag and gradually add small amounts of aquarium water over the next 15–20 minutes. Gently transfer the fish into the aquarium.
Important: Do not pour shipping water into your aquarium. Turn off aquarium lights and allow your new fish time to adjust to its new environment.
