Live Tropical Fish Gardnerii Killifish Pair 1 Male + 1 Female
The Gardneri Killifish, scientifically known as Fundulopanchax gardneri, is a colorful and hardy species prized among killifish enthusiasts. Native to Nigeria and Cameroon, this species is well-known for its vibrant colors, ease of care, and lively behavior, making it a popular choice for both beginner and experienced aquarists.
Appearance
- Males: Brightly colored with iridescent blue to green bodies, often marked by striking red and orange spots and sometimes highlighted with yellow or green accents. They typically have elongated fins with red or orange edges, which make them stand out beautifully in a planted aquarium.
- Females: Usually less colorful, with a more subdued brown or grayish coloration and a rounder body shape.
Care and Tank Requirements
- Tank Size: 10 gallons minimum, with more space ideal for groups.
- Water Conditions: Prefers slightly acidic to neutral pH (6.0-7.0) and temperatures between 72°F and 78°F (22°C - 26°C).
- Diet: Carnivorous; feeds on high-quality live and frozen foods like brine shrimp, daphnia, and bloodworms.
- Behavior: Peaceful but can be shy. Best kept in species-specific tanks or with other peaceful fish.
Breeding
Gardneri Killifish are prolific breeders. They are an egg-laying species, and spawning can be encouraged by providing a spawning mop or fine-leaf plants in the tank. After spawning, eggs can be collected and incubated separately if desired. The fry are easy to raise on infusoria and later on baby brine shrimp.
With their captivating colors and easy maintenance requirements, Gardneri Killifish are a fantastic addition to freshwater aquariums, especially in biotope or species-focused tanks.
