Mature males become especially vibrant during breeding season, developing intense iridescent colors that make the Rainbow Shiner one of the most impressive freshwater schooling fish available.
Rainbow Shiners are active, social fish that look their best when kept in groups. Their constantly changing iridescent coloration and energetic swimming behavior create an incredible display in larger aquariums, planted setups, and cool-water community tanks.

For the most impressive display, keep Rainbow Shiners in a school of at least six individuals, with larger groups providing even more natural behavior and visual impact. Provide plenty of open swimming space along with rocks, driftwood, and plants for cover.
Rainbow Shiners appreciate clean, well-oxygenated water with good filtration and moderate water movement. A varied diet consisting of quality prepared foods supplemented with frozen or live foods can help encourage excellent growth, condition, and vibrant coloration.

Please Note: Coloration varies depending on sex, age, breeding condition, diet, and environment. Mature males typically develop the most intense rainbow coloration, particularly when in breeding condition.
How to Acclimate Your Fish
Allow the sealed bag to float in your aquarium for approximately 15–20 minutes to equalize the temperature. Open the bag and gradually add small amounts of aquarium water over the next 15–20 minutes. Gently transfer the fish into the aquarium.
Important: Do not pour shipping water into your aquarium. Turn off aquarium lights and allow your new fish time to adjust to its new environment.
